Can Gynecomastia Surgery be Combined With Other Procedures?

This is a 33-year-old male who presented for evaluation of gynecomastia and excess fat around his waist and abdomen. He is 5 feet 7 inches and weighs 170 pounds. He underwent male breast reduction with gland excision and liposuction of his chest with ultrasonic liposuction of the abdomen and flanks.

At the time of the initial consultation with Dr. Delgado, some San Jose patients ask if it is possible to have additional liposuction done at the same time as male breast reduction surgery. This is very common and is performed quite frequently at Marin Cosmetic Surgery Center. Men notoriously carry localized fat deposits around their waist (love handles) abdomen and sometimes lower back and armpits. To have additional liposuction at the time of gynecomastia surgery makes a lot of sense, it saves the patient time and money and allows the surgeon to better sculpt the body.

Due to some patient’s schedules, it is not unusual for a patient to ask for an unrelated procedure to be done at the time of their gynecomastia procedure, such as a rhinoplasty (nose surgery), eyelid surgery or something else. With advances in anesthesia and surgical techniques, longer elective procedures are considered very safe and are performed often. Many men have limited time off so this is not an unusual request; however each patient needs to be evaluated individually. You are encouraged to discuss all of your goals during your consultation with Dr. Delgado.
